FAQs

What is laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is the process of removing unwanted hair from virtually any part of your body. Unlike waxing, shaving, or electrolysis, you get permanent reduction with each treatment. Five treatments are generally needed for optimal results. Professional laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction, according to the FDA, because it offers long term stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regimen.

What is the laser hair removal process?

A beam of light is passed over the skin, disabling every hair follicle in the area being treated. Nagada uses laser technology, administered by trained and medically supervised staff, with maximum efficacy and safety.

What results can I expect from laser hair removal?

With laser hair removal treatments you can expect significant permanent hair reduction to the point that temporary hair removal methods are seldom, if ever, are necessary. However, due to hormonal changes, hair color and skin tone, some clients may need a few additional treatments in order to achieve their personal level of desired results.

Who is Laser Hair Removal For?

Laser hair removal is suitable for both men and women in most places where unwanted hair grows.  Nagada Medical Spa uses the most advanced lasers to provide effective laser hair removal for most skin types and most body locations.

What is the Science Behind?

Laser hair removal is an effective method of permanently reducing unwanted hair.  During laser hair removal, highly controlled pulses of laser light are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles lying below the surface of the skin. The absorbed light heats and destroys the hair follicle, preventing re-growth from occurring without damaging surrounding tissues. Through a series of sessions, the lasers will target each follicle to remove unwanted hair.

Hair growth occurs in phases. Hair growth has three stages:  Anagen (active stage), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting). Lasers can only target hair in the anagen stage, the currently actively growing hair follicles. At any given time, only 15-25% of hairs are in the active growing stage at the same time. This explains why several treatments are required to assure the destruction of hair follicles. The exact number of treatments required will depend on various parameters including the area of the body treated, skin color, coarseness of hair and gender.

Typically, 30% of the hair on the body is removed after each treatment. Therefore, certain wavelengths need to be used to reach the hairs. This also explains why generally 5 to 6 treatments are needed to effectively become Nagada Smooth.

During your consultation, we will be able to discuss the specifics of your customized laser hair removal treatment program.

About the Procedure

Prior to laser hair removal, you need to prepare your skin in advance. Don’t wax, tweeze or epilate before laser hair removal. One to two days before the procedure, shave the area to be treated. During the Consultation we will discuss any additional considerations.

Laser hair removal generally requires no an aesthesia. The basic laser will feel like a slight snapping against your skin.  Nagada Med Spa uses “Candela” lasers and they have a built in cooling device, a self-directed flow of compressed cool air to the treatment area to create a more comfortable environment. Depending on the body region being treated, laser hair removal can take just a few moments up to an hour.

Following the treatment, you will be ready to go! The treated area may have the appearance of mild sunburn that can be camouflaged with cosmetics or soothed with a topical ointment

Q. I’ve never done laser hair removal before; is it safe?

  1. Laser hair removal is safe and effective. You may feel slight discomfort during the procedure, but this can be minimized by using a topical anesthetic prior to treatment, as well as relying on your medically trained clinician, who is a laser hair removal specialist, to guide you through the process.

Q. How does laser hair removal compare to other forms of hair removal?

A. Laser hair removal offers significant permanent hair reduction versus shaving or waxing, since hair follicles are not disabled with shaving or waxing. After each treatment, you come closer to becoming Nagada Med Spa Smooth.

Q. How do I determine my skin type? Why is that important for my laser hair removal treatments?

A. Our qualified laser hair removal specialists can help you determine your skin type. Nagada Med Spa uses the Fitzpatrick scale. The Fitzpatrick scale is a method of skin typing that measures and refers to different skin types’ tolerance to the sun’s burning rays.

Fitzpatrick Scale

Type

Appearance

Reaction to Sun Exposure

 I

Very fair, red or blonde, blue eyes, likely has freckles

 Always burns, never tans

 II

Fair skinned, blue, green, or hazel eyes, blonde or red hair

 Burns easily

 III

Very common skin type; fair with any eye or hair color

 Sometimes burns tans gradually

 IV

Typical Mediterranean Caucasian skin; medium to heavy pigmentation

 Rarely burns, always tans

 V

Mideastern skin types, rarely sun sensitive

 Tan

 VI

 Black skin, rarely sun sensitive

 Tans well

Determining your skin type helps us calibrate our laser technology better to remove unwanted hair successfully and safely.

Avoiding Sun Exposure

Avoiding sun exposure before and after laser treatments is exceptionally important.  Lasers react to pigment; therefore, any excess pigment in your skin can affect your results and increase the potential for burns.
